TOI-530: A Nearby Red Dwarf and Its Lone Giant Planet

TOI-530 is an M0.5 V star, an M-type main-sequence dwarf, located 485 light-years from Earth. Its reported mass estimate is 0.53 solar masses and its radius estimate is 0.54 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's. The star's reported temperature is 3660 K, cooler than the Sun's. One known planet orbits this host.

That planet is TOI-530 b, discovered in 2021 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is classified as Jupiter-like, meaning its radius exceeds four times Earth's. Its reported radius estimate is 9.3 Earth radii and its reported mass estimate is 127 Earth masses, both larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.87 g/cm³, 0.158 times Earth's.

TOI-530 b completes an orbit every 6.39 days.
