TOI-480 b: A Neptune-like World in a Distant Star System

TOI-480 is a star located 178 light-years from Earth. It is 2.7 billion years old, with a mass of 1.28 solar masses and a radius of 1.49 solar radii. Its temperature is 6170 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is TOI-480 b, a Neptune-like world discovered by the transit method in 2024. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Its orbital period is 6.87 days, and its radius is 2.85 Earth radii. Its mass is 20.8 Earth masses, and its mean density is 4.93 g/cm³, 0.895 times Earth's. Both its reported radius and mass estimates are larger than Earth's.
