TOI-3980 b: A Jupiter-Like World Around a Distant Star

TOI-3980 is a star 1590 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The star is estimated to be 4.7 billion years old, with a mass of 1.24 solar masses and a radius of 1.63 solar radii. Its temperature is 5840 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are both larger than the Sun's.

The single planet orbiting this host is TOI-3980 b, a Jupiter-like planet discovered in 2025 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Jupiter-like planets exceed 4 times Earth's radius. TOI-3980 b has a mass of 188 Earth masses and a radius of 14.5 Earth radii, both larger than Earth's corresponding values. Its mean density is 0.342 g/cm³, 0.062 times Earth's.

TOI-3980 b completes an orbit in 3.61 days.
