TOI-2669 b: A Jupiter-Like World Orbiting a Distant Star

TOI-2669 is a star 1280 light-years away with a mass of 1.19 solar masses, a radius of 4.1 solar radii, and a temperature of 4800 K. It is 5.9 billion years old, making it somewhat older than the Sun, and its reported mass and radius are both larger than the Sun's while its temperature is cooler. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, TOI-2669 b, was discovered in 2022 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius, with a radius of 19.7 Earth radii and a mass of 194 Earth masses. Both its radius and mass are larger than Earth's. It completes an orbit every 6.2 days.

For a planet so large, TOI-2669 b is remarkably light: its mean density is 0.139 g/cm³, which is 0.0253 times Earth's.
