TOI-2134: A Nearby K-Type Dwarf and Its Two Transiting Planets

TOI-2134 is a K5 V star located 73.8 light-years from Earth. This spectral type indicates a main-sequence dwarf somewhat cooler and redder than the Sun. The star's reported mass is 0.744 solar masses, and its radius is 0.709 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's corresponding values. Its temperature of 4580 K is also cooler than the Sun's, and its age is 3.8 billion years.

Two planets are known to orbit TOI-2134. Both were discovered in 2023 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods.

TOI-2134 b is a Neptune-like planet with a radius of 2.74 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its mass is 9.37 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's, and its mean density is 2.52 g/cm³, 0.458 times Earth's. It completes one orbit every 9.23 days.

TOI-2134 c is a Jupiter-like planet with a radius of 7.35 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its mass is 58.3 Earth masses, larger than Earth's, and its mean density is 0.809 g/cm³, 0.147 times Earth's. Its orbital period is 95.9 days.

Among the listed planets, TOI-2134 b has the shortest year and the smallest radius and reported mass, while TOI-2134 c has the longest year and the largest radius and reported mass. The star's radius of 0.709 solar radii and mass of 0.744 solar masses make it both smaller and less massive than the Sun, and its temperature of 4580 K is cooler than the Sun's.
