TOI-1776 and Its Earth-Like Planet

TOI-1776 is a star 146 light-years away with an age of 5.1 billion years, a mass of 0.92 solar masses, a radius of 0.936 solar radii, and a temperature of 5790 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are both smaller than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, TOI-1776 b, was discovered in 2024 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet passes in front of it from our viewpoint. Repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period. TOI-1776 b completes one orbit in 2.8 days, has a mass of 1.4 Earth masses, and has a radius of 1.22 Earth radii, larger than Earth's radius. Its size class is Earth-like, meaning it stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius. Its mean density is 4.29 g/cm³, 0.778 times Earth's.
