TOI-1728 is an M0 star 198 light-years away. Its spectral type marks it as a small, cool red dwarf. The star has a mass of 0.646 solar masses, a radius of 0.624 solar radii, and a temperature of 3980 K. All three values are smaller or cooler than the Sun's. TOI-1728 is 7.1 billion years old and hosts one known planet.
That planet is TOI-1728 b, discovered in 2020 by the transit method, in which a planet crossing in front of its star produces a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. TOI-1728 b completes an orbit every 3.49 days. Its radius of 5.05 Earth radii exceeds 4 times Earth's radius, making it Jupiter-like in size, and its mass estimate of 26.8 Earth masses is larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 1.15 g/cm³, 0.208 times Earth's.
