TOI-1716 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

TOI-1716 is a star 340 light-years from Earth. It is 5.4 billion years old and has a mass of 1.07 solar masses and a radius of 1.22 solar radii; its temperature is 5880 K. These figures are estimates, and the star's reported mass, radius, and temperature are all larger or hotter than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, TOI-1716.01, was discovered by transit in 2024. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. TOI-1716.01 completes an orbit every 8.08 days and has a radius of 3.14 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's. At that size it falls within the Neptune-like class, which reaches 4 times Earth's radius.
