TOI-1294 and Its Two Known Planets

TOI-1294 is a star 1080 light-years away with two known planets. The star is estimated to be 6.2 billion years old, with a mass of 1.16 solar masses, a radius of 1.56 solar radii, and a temperature of 5720 K. Its mass and radius are both larger than the Sun's.

TOI-1294 b is a Jupiter-like planet discovered by the transit method in 2024, when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It has a mass of 63.9 Earth masses, a radius of 10.1 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 3.92 days, the shortest year among the listed planets. Its radius and mass are both larger than Earth's, and its mean density is 0.339 g/cm³, 0.0616 times Earth's.

TOI-1294 c was found by the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. It has a minimum mass, or lower bound on its true mass, of 147 Earth masses, larger than Earth's, and an orbital period of 160 days. Among the listed planets, TOI-1294 c has the longest year by reported estimates.
