TOI-1194 b: A Jupiter-Like World in a Two-Day Orbit

TOI-1194 is a star 488 light-years from Earth. It is 4.9 billion years old, with a mass of 0.984 solar masses and a radius of 0.961 solar radii, making it slightly smaller than the Sun. Its temperature of 5390 K is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is TOI-1194 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2023. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, dimming the star's light. TOI-1194 b completes one orbit in 2.31 days. Its radius is 8.72 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass of 120 Earth masses also exceeds Earth's. Its mean density of 0.998 g/cm³ is 0.181 times Earth's.
