Qatar-4 and Its Giant Planet

Qatar-4 is a K-type main-sequence dwarf 1070 light-years away, with a spectral type of K1 V. Its age is 0.17 billion years, its mass is 0.896 solar masses, its radius is 0.849 solar radii, and its temperature is 5220 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, Qatar-4 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2017. It is Jupiter-like, with a mass of 1940 Earth masses, a radius of 12.7 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 1.81 days. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than Earth's, and its mass is roughly 6.1 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 5.19 g/cm³, 0.942 times Earth's.
