NGTS-6 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

NGTS-6 is a star 1010 light-years away with one known planet. The star is 9.77 billion years old and has a mass of 0.767 solar masses, a radius of 0.754 solar radii, and a temperature of 4730 K. Its mass and radius are each smaller than the Sun's, while its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet NGTS-6 b is a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2019. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. NGTS-6 b has a mass of 426 Earth masses and a radius of 14.9 Earth radii, both larger than Earth's. Its radius exceeds four times Earth's, placing it in the Jupiter-like class, and its mass is roughly 1.34 times Jupiter's mass. NGTS-6 b completes an orbit in 0.882 days, and its mean density is 0.714 g/cm³, 0.13 times Earth's.
