Kepler-95 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-95 is a star located 1450 light-years away. Its measurements include an age of 5.63 billion years, a mass of 1.08 solar masses, a radius of 1.41 solar radii, and a temperature of 5700 K. The star’s reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun’s. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet is Kepler-95 b, a Neptune-like world discovered in 2014 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-95 b completes one orbit every 11.5 days, and its reported radius estimate is 3.42 Earth radii, larger than Earth’s. Its reported mass estimate is 13 Earth masses, also larger than Earth’s. Its mean density is 1.79 g/cm³, 0.325 times Earth's.
