Kepler-837: A Distant Star and Its Neptune-Like World

Kepler-837 is a star located 2940 light-years away, and one planet orbits it. The star is estimated to be 3.98 billion years old. Its reported mass estimate is 0.85 solar masses and its radius estimate is 0.81 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's. With a reported temperature of 5400 K, it is cooler than the Sun.

The system's single known planet is Kepler-837 b, a Neptune-like world discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-837 b completes an orbit every 16.6 days. Its reported radius estimate is 2.56 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. In size classification, a Neptune-like planet reaches up to 4 times Earth's radius.
