Kepler-773 b: A Close-In Earth-Like Planet

Kepler-773 is a star located 1,780 light-years away, with one planet in orbit. The star is 2.82 billion years old, holds 1.04 solar masses, spans 1.01 solar radii, and has a temperature of 5,850 K. Its reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-773 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-773 b completes an orbit every 3.75 days and has a radius of 1.43 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. That radius places it within the Earth-like size class, which covers planets up to 1.5 times Earth's radius.
