Kepler-705 b: A Super-Earth in a Distant System

Kepler-705 is a star located 903 light-years away. It has one known planet. The host star is estimated to be 1.6 billion years old, with a mass of 0.534 solar masses and a radius of 0.502 solar radii. Its temperature is 3670 K, cooler than the Sun, and both its mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's.

The system's only known planet, Kepler-705 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-705 b completes an orbit every 56.1 days. With a radius of 2.11 Earth radii, it is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius, and its radius estimate is larger than Earth's.
