Kepler-697 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

Kepler-697 is a star 4170 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host star is 4.37 billion years old, has 0.92 solar masses and 0.88 solar radii, and a temperature of 5510 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet Kepler-697 b was discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-697 b completes an orbit every 3.71 days, and its radius of 4.13 Earth radii is larger than Earth's. Its size classifies it as Jupiter-like, meaning it exceeds 4 times Earth's radius.
