Kepler-668 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-668 is a star 2560 light-years away with one planet. The star is estimated to be 3.89 billion years old, with a mass of 0.87 solar masses and a radius of 0.82 solar radii. Its temperature is 5350 K, cooler than the Sun's, and its reported mass and radius estimates are both smaller than the Sun's.

The planet Kepler-668 b was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-668 b completes an orbit in 8.35 days. Its radius is 2.7 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and it is classified as Neptune-like, a size class reaching 4 times Earth's radius.
