Kepler-638 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-638 is a star located 3230 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is 11.8 billion years old and has a mass of 0.88 solar masses, a radius of 0.93 solar radii, and a temperature of 5380 K. Its mass is smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-638 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-638 b orbits its star every 6.08 days and has a radius of 1.83 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. It is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches up to 2.5 times Earth's radius.
