Kepler-636 b: A Jupiter-like World in a Two-Star System

Kepler-636 is a star 1010 light-years away with a mass of 0.85 solar masses and a radius of 0.8 solar radii. It is 5.01 billion years old and has a temperature of 5200 K. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, Kepler-636 b, is a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet crosses in front of its star from our viewpoint, dimming the star's light; repeated dips reveal the planet's orbital period. Kepler-636 b completes one orbit every 16.1 days and has a radius of 4.45 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. The star's mass and radius are smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler.
