Kepler-623 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-623 is a star located 2410 light-years away. It has 0.9 solar masses, a radius of 0.86 solar radii, and a temperature of 5440 K. Its age is 4.47 billion years. The star's reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, its reported radius estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet is Kepler-623 b, a Neptune-like world discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-623 b orbits every 9.07 days and has a radius of 3.01 Earth radii. Its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's. A Neptune-like planet reaches 4 times Earth's radius, so Kepler-623 b falls within that size class by radius.
