Kepler-580 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-580 is a star located 1060 light-years away, with one planet known to orbit it. The host star is 3.47 billion years old, with a mass of 0.67 solar masses, a radius of 0.64 solar radii, and a temperature of 4300 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The system's single planet, Kepler-580 b, is a Neptune-like world discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-580 b orbits its star every 8.22 days and has a radius of 2.57 Earth radii, a reported radius estimate larger than Earth's. Planet size classes compare radius with Earth's: a Neptune-like planet reaches 4 times Earth's radius.
