Kepler-531: A Cool, Older Star With One Known Planet

Kepler-531 is a star located 824 light-years away, with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star is estimated to be 7.76 billion years old. Its mass is 0.78 solar masses and its radius is 0.75 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's corresponding values. Its temperature is 4890 K, cooler than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-531 b, is Neptune-like in size classification. It was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Its orbital period is 29.9 days, and its radius is 2.78 Earth radii, larger than Earth's.
