Kepler-530: A Distant Star With a Neptune-like World

Kepler-530 is a star located 1490 light-years away. It hosts one known planet. The star is estimated to be 1.78 billion years old, with a mass of 0.97 solar masses and a radius of 0.89 solar radii. Its temperature is 5700 K. Its mass and radius are both smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-530 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method. During a transit, a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-530 b orbits its star every 39.3 days. Its radius is 3.01 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. This radius places it in the Neptune-like class, which includes planets up to 4 times Earth's radius.
