Kepler-497 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

Kepler-497 is a star 4210 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host star is 3.55 billion years old, has a mass of 1.09 solar masses, a radius of 1.11 solar radii, and a temperature of 5830 K. Its reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-497 b, is a Jupiter-like world discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-497 b completes an orbit every 3.57 days and has a radius of 6.04 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. A Jupiter-like planet exceeds 4 times Earth's radius.
