Kepler-473 b: A Jupiter-Like World in a Distant System

Kepler-473 is a star located 2950 light-years away. It has 1.06 solar masses, 1.34 solar radii, a temperature of 5820 K, and an age of 6.92 billion years. Its mass and radius are both larger than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet is Kepler-473 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-473 b completes an orbit every 14.6 days and has a radius of 4.08 Earth radii, larger than Earth's.
