Kepler-463 and Its Neptune-like Planet

Kepler-463 is a star located 1290 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is estimated to be 7.41 billion years old, with a mass of 0.87 solar masses and a radius of 0.9 solar radii. Its reported temperature is 5660 K, which is cooler than the Sun's, and its reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-463 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-463 b completes an orbit every 8.98 days and has a radius of 3.05 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's. This radius places it in the Neptune-like size class, which extends to 4 times Earth's radius.
