Kepler-417: A Distant Star with Two Known Planets

Kepler-417 is a star located 3180 light-years away, and two planets have been found orbiting it. The host star is 4.9 billion years old, with a mass of 0.84 solar masses and a radius of 0.8 solar radii. Its temperature is 5180 K, and its reported mass, radius, and temperature are each smaller or cooler than the Sun's corresponding values.

Both planets were discovered in 2014 by the transit method. Kepler-417 b is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius. It has a radius of 2.31 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and a mass of 11 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 4.92 g/cm³, 0.892 times Earth's. Kepler-417 c has no reported radius or mass. Its orbital period is 15.9 days, while Kepler-417 b's is 12.3 days. Among the listed planets, Kepler-417 b has the shortest year and Kepler-417 c has the longest year by reported estimates.
