Kepler-412 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

Kepler-412 is a G3 V star, a Sun-like main-sequence dwarf, located 3540 light-years away. Its measured mass is 1.17 solar masses and its radius is 1.29 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's corresponding values. The star's temperature is 5750 K, and its age is 5.1 billion years. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet is Kepler-412 b, classified as Jupiter-like because its radius exceeds four times Earth's. It was discovered in 2014 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-412 b has a radius of 15 Earth radii and a mass of 299 Earth masses. Its orbital period is 1.72 days. Its mean density is 0.485 g/cm³, which is 0.0881 times Earth's.
