Kepler-35 and Its Circumbinary Planet

Kepler-35 is a binary star system 5930 light-years away. The host star has a mass of 0.888 solar masses and a radius of 1.03 solar radii; its temperature is 5610 K. The system is home to one known planet.

That planet is Kepler-35 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2011. It is circumbinary, meaning it orbits both stars of the binary system rather than one star alone. Kepler-35 b has a mass of 40.4 Earth masses, a radius of 8.16 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 131 days. Its mean density is 0.409 g/cm³, 0.0743 times Earth's. The planet's mass and radius are both larger than Earth's, while its mean density is lower. The star's mass is smaller than the Sun's and its radius is larger, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.
