Kepler-315: A Star and Its Two Transiting Planets

Kepler-315 is a star located 3790 light-years away. It has 0.98 solar masses, 1 solar radii, and a temperature of 5840 K, and it is 4.9 billion years old. Two planets orbit this host.

Both planets were discovered in 2014 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-315 b is Neptune-like and orbits every 96.1 days; its radius is 3.77 Earth radii. Kepler-315 c is Jupiter-like, orbits every 265 days, and has a radius of 4.15 Earth radii. Each planet's reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's. Among the listed planets, Kepler-315 b has the shortest year and the smallest radius, while Kepler-315 c has the longest year and the largest radius.
