Kepler-246 and Its Two Super-Earths

Kepler-246 is a star located 2040 light-years away, and it hosts two known planets. The star is 4.57 billion years old, with a mass of 0.9 solar masses, a radius of 0.87 solar radii, and a temperature of 5430 K. Its mass, radius, and temperature are each reported as smaller or cooler than the Sun's.

Both planets were discovered by transit in 2014, the method in which a planet passing in front of its star produces a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-246 b is a Super-Earth with an orbital period of 4.6 days and a radius of 2.34 Earth radii. Kepler-246 c is also a Super-Earth, with an orbital period of 11.2 days and a radius of 1.5 Earth radii.

Among the listed planets, Kepler-246 b has the shortest year and the largest radius by reported estimates, while Kepler-246 c has the longest year and the smallest radius. Kepler-246 b's radius is larger than Earth's.
