Kepler-1999 b: A Neptune-Like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1999 is a single star located 2290 light-years from Earth. The star has a mass of 0.632 solar masses and a radius of 0.627 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's corresponding values. Its temperature is 4400 K, cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is Kepler-1999 b, a Neptune-like world discovered by the transit method in 2023. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1999 b completes one orbit every 8.74 days and has a radius of 3.29 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. This radius places it within the Neptune-like size class, which reaches up to four times Earth's radius.
