Kepler-1863 b: A Super-Earth in a Distant System

Kepler-1863 is a star located 2820 light-years away, and one planet orbits it. The star is larger and more massive than the Sun, with a reported mass of 1.05 solar masses and a radius of 1.57 solar radii. Its temperature of 5830 K is also hotter than the Sun's.

The single known planet, Kepler-1863 b, is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches up to 2.5 times Earth's radius. Its radius of 2.26 Earth radii is larger than Earth's, placing it near the upper end of that category. The planet completes an orbit every 45 days. It was discovered in 2021 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness.
