Kepler-1796 b: A Neptune-Like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1796 is a star 2690 light-years away with a mass of 1.02 solar masses, a radius of 0.949 solar radii, and a temperature of 6040 K. Its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, Kepler-1796 b, is Neptune-like, a size classification that compares radius with Earth's and reaches up to four times Earth's radius. It was discovered by transit in 2021, when it passed in front of its star from our viewpoint and caused a small dip in observed brightness. Its radius measures 2.75 Earth radii, a radius estimate larger than Earth's. The planet completes an orbit every 29.5 days, the period that repeated transits help establish.
