Kepler-1461 b: A Super-Earth in a Distant System

Kepler-1461 is a star located 2210 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The host star is estimated to be 3.24 billion years old, with a mass of 0.79 solar masses and a radius of 0.74 solar radii. Its reported temperature is 4920 K, and the star's reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, while its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet orbiting this star is Kepler-1461 b, a Super-Earth discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1461 b completes an orbit every 29.3 days and has a radius of 2.03 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's radius. Its size classification as a Super-Earth describes its radius rather than its composition. The star's age of 3.24 billion years rounds out the known facts about this system.
