Kepler-1435: A Distant Star With a Sub-Earth Planet

Kepler-1435 is a star 2300 light-years away. It is 2.63 billion years old and has 1.21 solar masses, 1.32 solar radii, and a temperature of 6360 K. Its mass, radius, and temperature are all reported as larger or hotter than the Sun's. One known planet orbits it.

That planet, Kepler-1435 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1435 b has an orbital period of 4.45 days and a radius of 0.86 Earth radii, smaller than Earth's. Its size class, Sub-Earth, refers to a radius below Earth's rather than to composition, and its radius comparison describes radius, not volume.
