Kepler-1409 b: A Close-Orbiting Earth-Like World

Kepler-1409 is a star 2270 light-years away with one known planet, Kepler-1409 b. The host star is estimated to be 4.79 billion years old, with a mass of 0.83 solar masses and a radius of 0.79 solar radii, and a temperature of 5160 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

Kepler-1409 b was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period. Kepler-1409 b completes one orbit in 0.765 days and has a radius of 1.04 Earth radii. That radius places it within the Earth-like size class, which covers planets within 1.5 times Earth's radius.
