Kepler-1322 and Its Two Known Planets

Kepler-1322 is a star located 4400 light-years away. It is 4.47 billion years old and has a mass of 0.9 solar masses and a radius of 0.87 solar radii. Its temperature is 5490 K. The star's reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, as is its reported radius estimate, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. Two planets are known to orbit this host.

Both planets were found by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1322 b was discovered in 2016. It is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius, and its radius estimate is 1.61 Earth radii. It completes an orbit, or year, every 0.963 days.

Kepler-1322 c was discovered in 2021 and is also classified as a Super-Earth. Its radius estimate is 2.15 Earth radii, also larger than Earth's. Its year lasts 6.46 days. Among the listed planets, Kepler-1322 b has the shortest year and the smallest radius by reported estimates, while Kepler-1322 c has the longest year and the largest radius.
