Kepler-1319 and Its Earth-Sized World

Kepler-1319 is a star located 339 light-years from Earth, a distance measured in the unit that describes how far light travels in a year. The star is estimated to be 5.37 billion years old. Its reported mass estimate is 0.56 solar masses, smaller than the Sun's, and its reported radius estimate is 0.54 solar radii, also smaller than the Sun's. With a reported temperature of 3660 K, the star is cooler than the Sun. One known planet orbits this star.

That planet is Kepler-1319 b, classified as Earth-like, a size class that keeps a planet within 1.5 times Earth's radius. It was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1319 b completes its orbit in 2.89 days and has a radius of 1.34 Earth radii, larger than Earth's.
