Kepler-1291 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-1291 is a star 2930 light-years away with one known planet, Kepler-1291 b. The host star is 4.9 billion years old and has a mass of 0.84 solar masses, a radius of 0.8 solar radii, and a temperature of 5220 K. Its mass, radius, and temperature are all lower than the Sun's.

Kepler-1291 b was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period. That period is 8.63 days. The planet is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius. Its radius of 1.66 Earth radii is larger than Earth's.
