Kepler-1232 b: A Super-Earth in a Distant System

Kepler-1232 is a star located 2060 light-years away. It is 4.79 billion years old and has 0.92 solar masses, 0.89 solar radii, and a temperature of 5470 K. Its mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is Kepler-1232 b, a Super-Earth discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1232 b completes an orbit every 26.8 days and has a radius of 1.93 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. The Super-Earth class covers planets reaching 2.5 times Earth's radius, while an Earth-like planet stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius.
