Kepler-1198 and Its Earth-Like Planet

Kepler-1198 is a single star located 2420 light-years from Earth, with one known planet in orbit. The star is estimated to be 4.68 billion years old, with a mass of 0.93 solar masses and a radius of 0.9 solar radii. Its temperature is 5520 K, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. Both its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's.

The only known planet around Kepler-1198 is Kepler-1198 b, discovered in 2016 by the transit method. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods.

Kepler-1198 b is classified as Earth-like, a size class that stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 1.47 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's. The planet completes one orbit in 7.68 days.
