Kepler-1187 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-1187 is a star 3330 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host star is 3.39 billion years old and has a mass of 1.06 solar masses and a radius of 1.09 solar radii. Its temperature of 5980 K is hotter than the Sun's.

The system's single planet, Kepler-1187 b, was discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1187 b completes an orbit every 18.9 days and has a radius of 2.61 Earth radii, larger than Earth's radius. That radius places it in the Neptune-like size class, which reaches four times Earth's radius.
