Kepler-1177 b: A Super-Earth in a Distant System

Kepler-1177 is a star 4240 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 4.47 billion years old and has a mass of 0.98 solar masses, a radius of 0.97 solar radii, and a temperature of 5710 K.

The planet, Kepler-1177 b, is a Super-Earth discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1177 b orbits its star every 106 days and has a radius of 1.9 Earth radii, a reported radius estimate larger than Earth's.
