Kepler-1169 and Its Sub-Earth Planet

Kepler-1169 is a star 1710 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 1.38 billion years old, has a mass of 1.24 solar masses and a radius of 1.23 solar radii, and has a temperature of 6190 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet Kepler-1169 b was discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1169 b orbits every 6.11 days, and its radius of 0.94 Earth radii places it in the Sub-Earth size class, which compares radius with Earth's and describes planets smaller than Earth.
