Kepler-1074 b: An Earth-Like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1074 is a star located 818 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is estimated to be 3.55 billion years old, with a mass of 0.6 solar masses and a radius of 0.57 solar radii. Its temperature is 4000 K, cooler than the Sun.

The planet Kepler-1074 b was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star and causes a small dip in brightness. It orbits every 5.95 days and has a radius of 1.25 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. This radius places it within the Earth-like size class, which includes planets up to 1.5 times Earth's radius. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are both smaller than the Sun's.
