Kepler-1059 b: A Super-Earth in a Close Orbit

Kepler-1059 is a star located 2330 light-years away, with an age of 5.37 billion years. Its mass is 0.75 solar masses, its radius is 0.72 solar radii, and its temperature is 4910 K, all of which are smaller or cooler than the corresponding values for the Sun. One planet is known to orbit this star.

That planet, Kepler-1059 b, is a Super-Earth discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. Its orbital period is 3.76 days, and its radius is 1.73 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. A Super-Earth size class reaches up to 2.5 times Earth's radius, so Kepler-1059 b falls within that range.
