Kepler-1053 b: A Sub-Earth in a Close Orbit

Kepler-1053 is a star located 493 light-years away, with one known planet in its system. The host star has a mass of 0.74 solar masses and a radius of 0.69 solar radii, making it smaller than the Sun in both respects. Its temperature is 4530 K, which is cooler than the Sun's, and it is 3.09 billion years old.

The only planet known to orbit this star is Kepler-1053 b. It was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. This planet completes an orbit every 2.41 days. Its radius is 0.98 Earth radii, and it is classified as a Sub-Earth, meaning it is smaller than Earth.
