Kepler-1027 b: A Sub-Earth in a Two-Star System

Kepler-1027 is a star located 1320 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star itself is estimated to be 1.41 billion years old, with a mass of 0.91 solar masses and a radius of 0.82 solar radii. Its temperature is 5440 K, which is cooler than the Sun's reported temperature. Both its mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1027 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet passes in front of it. Repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period, which here is 1.91 days. Kepler-1027 b is classified as a Sub-Earth, a size class for planets with a radius smaller than Earth's. Its radius is 0.89 Earth radii, which is likewise smaller than Earth's.
